We create generational change through education.
Develop, strengthen and empower.
The Japhet Family Foundation works to develop, strengthen and empower by giving priority to:
Providing for the educational needs of children and young adults.
Supporting economic development opportunities.
Ensuring a safe and healthy future for all members of the community.
We believe that generational change happens when you empower communities and provide children with unencumbered access to education.
Our School
Founded in 2006 the Ambassador Kiti Memorial Secondary (AKMS) School serves the rural settlement community of Vitengeni Kenya, which has one of the poorest student populations in the region. The school currently provides educational services to students who range in age from 14-18 years. Recent efforts have allowed the AKMS School to secure enough funding to complete a five classroom building, moving the students out of the original school house which had fallen into massive disrepair. This is a start but there is still so much work to be done. The staff and students of the AKMS face almost insurmountable barriers to their teaching and learning, including sanitation facilitates and running water, health and safety, nutrition and, access to educational books and supplies. Without additional support, most of these students will not finish school. Through the Japhet Family Foundation we aim to ensure all children in the region not only have access to, but thrive through education.
Our Community
Vitengeni is a rural settlement community that sits on the West side of the Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve in Kilifi County, Kenya. Thanks to fertile soils and a good weather pattern, the region can usually rely on crop farming; however, poverty and a lack of financial investments in the region have severely limited opportunity for the local community to prosper from the fruitful land. The Japhet Family Foundation has a long-term goal of securing investments to support community managed agricultural projects designed to create sustainable jobs that benefit the community and change lives for generations.
Our Connection
The Ambassador Kiti Memorial Secondary School is named in honor of Japhet Kiti, patriarch of the Kiti family who are the founders of the Japhet Family Foundation. The family has a deep connection to the region which was the homeland to Japhet Kiti. Throughout his life, Ambassador Kiti served both the Country of Kenya and his local community. It was his deep belief that you must give back to the people and the community from which you came. It is in honor of his legacy that we continue his work of giving.
